Gaining 1 New Member a Week
Thursday night we were up to 6 players and we had action on 3 boards. This Thursday looks to be even better as the club grows and players are starting to find us. We will be setting a date for our first Saturday "rated" Swiss. It will be early January. Reply to this blog if you have a prefered date. We will need to get a date set so that we can publish a TLA in "Chess Life".

RSVP for Thursday
As we prepare for the next Thursday evening of chess at the Tyler Street location this question stands alone........
WHAT TIME CONTROLS SHOULD WE USE?
WHAT TIME CONTROLS SHOULD WE USE?
The goal is to play a 3 round robin by seeding the players into groups of 3 or 4. We plan to keep a record of the results each week and re-seed the players according to a club rating system based loosely on the USCF rating system.
Some of the issues revolve around shorter time controls, more games or longer times and the ability to write down the moves.
Leave a "COMMENT" and RSVP for Thursday and let us know what you think about the time controls.........

FIRST MEETING SUCCESSFUL

The first meeting of the new Longview Chess Club took place last Thursday evening. The new sets were put to good use as the new members got to know each other. Plans were made for next week to start competition consisting of round robins of 3 games with special club ratings and a club ladder, showing the new leaders, kept on the wall.
On another another note, I will be competing in the "2007 U.S. Class Championships" being held October 19-21 in Houston. I am hoping to see as many of you as possible there. For those that will not be able to come, look here for live updates and pictures.
